Asthma in Schools

One out of every 12 school-aged children has asthma and asthma is one of the leading causes of missed school days.

This page provides information on:

  • Burden of asthma for children
  • Stock inhaler legislation
  • How to get involved
  • Resources for managing asthma at school

In 2016, legislation was passed in New Hampshire allowing schools to hold a stock inhaler, available to any student with asthma who has an attack at school, as long as they have an Asthma Action Plan on file. The Asthma Control Program has partnered with the New Hampshire School Nurses Association to pilot trainings and stock inhalers in over 30 schools around the state.
