The State Plan on Aging for 2006 through 2007 (63 Pages) constitutes New Hampshire's application for federal funds appropriated under the Older Americans Act and was approved by the Administration on Aging on September 30, 2005. The Plan describes the services available to older adults and adults with chronic illnesses or disabilities through the Older Americans Act, the Social Services Block Grant, Medicaid and other programs.
The State of NH is designated by the Administration on Aging (AoA) as a single planning and service area and the Bureau of Elderly and Adult Services within DHHS is designated as the state unit on aging and as the area agency serving the entire state.
Under this designation, BEAS has the authority to develop and administer the State Plan on Aging in accordance with all requirements of the Act and is primarily responsible for the development of comprehensive and coordinated services for the older population of NH. The Plan contains all the assurances and plans to be implemented by BEAS under the provisions of the Older Americans Act of 1965, as amended.
BEAS' core responsibility is to be an effective and visible advocate for the older citizens of NH and for adults living with chronic illnesses or disabilities. Thus, the NH State Plan on Aging is intended to reflect the values adopted by BEAS in its vision and mission statement, which emphasizes the importance of developing a service system that is community-based, consumer-directed, and which promotes independence, dignity and quality of life.
Development of the NH State Plan on Aging would not have been possible without participation by the State Committee on Aging, Area Committees on Aging, the Senior Collaboration Committee, community service providers, family caregivers, and BEAS Central Office and District Office staff. BEAS gratefully acknowledges the support and dedication of these groups and individuals, who have helped to ensure that the Plan meets the needs of NH elders and adults with chronic illnesses or disabilities. |
