Supports for Family Caregivers

Through the National Family Caregiver Support Program and other State and Federal programs family caregivers in New Hampshire can receive a variety of supports to assist them in providing care for another individual.  The term "family caregiver" refers to family members, partners and others who provide unpaid care to another individual who needs their assistance with daily living activities.

Most supports are available to all family caregivers, however the respite grants have eligibility criteria based on factors that include age, assistance required with activities of daily living, 24 hour caregiving without compensation, and diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease or related disorders (ADRD).

Family Caregiver Supports aid family caregivers caring for a frail older adult, older adults who are caring for an adult with disabilities and grandparents and relative caregivers who are raising a child or children.

Family caregiver support services can be accessed through the ServiceLink Aging and Disability Resource Centers and include:

  • General information
  • Assistance in accessing programs and community resources
  • Individual counseling and support groups
  • Caregiver training
  • Grants for respite care (Respite care provides temporary relief for primary caregivers) and limited supplemental services.

The ServiceLink Aging and Disability Resource Centers can be reached toll free at 1-866-634-9412 or via their website at www.servicelink.org.

Alzheimer's Disease and Related Disorders Programs provides information and grants for respite care to help family caregivers of persons with Alzheimer's Disease and Related Disorders (ADRD).  The ServiceLink Aging and Disability Resource Centers can provide family caregivers with community resources, information on where to apply for the ADRD respite grants and how to obtain a hard copy of the Family Care Guide.

  • Grants for respite care (Respite care provides temporary relief for primary caregivers)
  • NH's Family Care Guide: Alzheimer's Disease and Related Disorders is a comprehensive guide that has been a time-honored source of information for family members and others who are dealing with the effects of Alzheimer's disease and other related disorders.
