Fifth National Survey of Older Americans Act Participants

The Bureau of Elderly and Adult Services (BEAS) was chosen by the U.S. Administration on Aging (AoA) to participate in the Fifth National Survey of Older Americans Act Participants.  Randomly selected individuals and caregivers, who receive AoA funded services in New Hampshire, have been selected for participation in this national study. The AoA funded services consist of congregate meals, home delivered meals, homemaker, and family caregiver services.

A telephone interviewer from Westat Inc., a contractor acting on behalf of the U.S. Administration on Aging, will call participants in June, July and August 2009 to ask about their experience with one of these services.

The AoA is required to report to Congress about how well the AoA services are meeting the needs of older Americans and caregivers. Congress uses these reports to help make funding decisions about Federal programs for older persons, so participation is very important.  AoA received approval from the Federal Office of Management and Budget (OMB approval number 0985-0023) to identify and survey seniors and caregivers who receive services funded by the Older Americans Act.

Individuals and caregivers selected for participation will receive a letter in June informing them of the program.  Providers who provide the AoA service to these individuals will also receive a letter explaining the survey.

Participation in the survey is voluntary and all information will be kept completely confidential. The information provided will be combined with responses from other persons across the United States.
