The Bureau of Health Facilities Administration develops, establishes and enforces basic standards for the care and treatment of persons in hospitals and other health care facilities in which medical, nursing or other remedial care are rendered. Licensing and inspecting NH's health care establishments ensures the health and safety of the citizens serviced.
BHFA is also the contract survey agency for the NH Medicaid Office and the US Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. BHFA conducts certification surveys for provider participation in the Medicare and Medicaid programs. Additionally, BHFA issues certifications to community residences providing residential placements for individuals with developmental disabilities under the Community Care Waiver.
