The prevention and control of influenza and other seasonal respiratory illness outbreaks pose an important challenge faced by all schools.  The Public Health Advisory for Schools Regarding Influenza (4 pages) gives background information on influenza and practical recommendations for the prevention and control of influenza and other respiratory illnesses in various school settings.

 

Hand Washing

98% of all infections are spread by hands and proper hand hygiene is the most important way to prevent the spread of infections. The Hand Hygiene Poster for Kids (1 page) is a printable poster that shows the proper way for kids to wash their hands and when to do so.

 

Good Hand Washing Guidelinesfor Kids:

  • After using the bathrooom
  • Before touching any food
  • Before eating 
  • After sneezing, blowing your nose or coughing
  • After touching your face
  • After playing with toys used by others
