Childhood lead poisoning continues to be a major, preventable environmental health problem. Despite significant progress toward the elimination of lead poisoning in the population as a whole, children, who are most vulnerable to the harmful effects of lead, continue to be exposed to this toxin at an unacceptable rate.
Since 1992 CLPPP has coordinated and strengthened NH's efforts to address this public health problem. CLPPP is now well positioned to launch a more targeted campaign to identify children at risk, to reduce the hazards that exist and to implement primary prevention strategies. The Program has six core program activities:
- case management;
- environmental assessment;
- licensing and certification of lead paint professionals;
- surveillance;
- professional and public education; and
- policy development.
