The Department of Health & Human Services wishes everyone a happy and healthy summer. The following resources are reminders of things to do or consider while enjoying the outdoors this season.
Protect Yourself
EEE and West Nile Virus - EEE and West Nile Virus are caused by infected mosquitoes. Protect yourself by using insect repellent, wearing long-sleeved shirts, pants and socks when mosquitoes are biting, and eliminate standing water.
Lyme Disease Lyme disease is transmitted to people when they are bitten by an infected tick. Protect yourself by using insect repellent, wearing long-sleeved shirts, pants and socks if your activity is in or around wooded and grassy areas. Always check for tocks on skin or clothing after being outdoors.
Rabies - Rabies is transmitted to humans by an infected animal. Report any animal that is behaving erratically or seems disoriented or aggressive to your animal control officer or park service.
Summer Fun with Sun Protection - Tips to avoid sun related illnesses. The best prevention is to avoid direct sun between peak hours of sunlight and to use a sun screen of 30 SPF or higher.
