2002 Health Insurance Coverage Surveys
Start Date:07/01/2001
End Date:09/28/2002
Owner:

Office of Medicaid Business & Policy,

Health Planning and Research

Between the summer of 2001 and the summer of 2002 the DHHS Offices of Health Planning and Medicaid and Research and Analysis conducted two surveys:

  • A family health insurance survey of 5177 families to examine their access to health insurance and health care, and
  • An employer health insurance survey of 642 businesses to examine how businesses' decisions to offer health insurance coverage to employees and their families are affected by health care cost.

Survey results indicate job-related health insurance is a primary source for health insurance coverage for NH families and approximately 80 percent of NH's non-elderly population has employer-based health insurance.  The detailed results of each survey are outlined in two separate Issue Briefs:

2002 Family Health Insurance Issue Brief (4 pages)

2002 Employer Issue Brief (3 pages)

This effort is the second of two population surveys on health insurance coverage in NH.  The findings from the first survey are in the report entitled Health Insurance Coverage and the Uninsured in NH.

NH was one of eleven states to receive funding support from the US DHHS Health Services and Research Administration (HRSA) to conduct these surveys and analyze the results.  As a grant recipient DHHS was required to submit a final report to HRSA at the conclusion of the grant period that identified the characteristics of the uninsured within NH and outlined options to provide them with affordable health insurance coverage.  Copies of the eleven individual Interim Final Reports for the State Planning Grants Program or a single compilation entitled Interim Report: Synthesis of State Experiences can be accessed on the HRSA Office of Special Programs website.
