Health Statistics & Data Management provides data request services for all parties interested in the public health data in their stewardship. Requests are generally classified as non-confidential analysis, confidential record level data sets and confidential analysis. Different forms must be submitted to request data or analyses depending upon the request type. A description of each request type is provided below.
Non-Confidential Analysis
HSDM will perform analysis when results contain no directly confidential identifying information and no information that could be used to indirectly or constructively identify an individual. Non-confidential analysis of data for areas smaller than counties can result in small numbers that must be suppressed. The Guidelines for the Release of Public Health Data provide information about how confidentiality is determined. The Non-Confidential Data Analysis Request Form or the Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System (BRFSS) Analysis Request Form must be submitted to HSDM for all data requests.
Confidential Record Level Data Sets and Confidential Analysis
HSDM will provide access to confidential data to qualified researchers demonstrating a direct and tangible non-commercial health related interest. HSDM will perform preprocessing of large data sets to provide data of interest to a researcher. Approval to receive or use confidential data requires a request to HSDM as well as approval by the Health Data Review Committee. Upon request and approval, HSDM will also perform analyses that result in confidential tabular information (no cell suppression). The Confidential Data Request Form must be submitted to HSDM to request confidential record level data or analyses.
