Questions & Answers:
1.  Can my physician or psychiatrist admit me to New Hampshire Hospital?Back to top

NHH is part of the NH community mental health system.  Admissions to NHH can be referred from either the local community mental health program or by a physician authorized to do so by a community mental health program.  This physician is usually working in the emergency room of a local hospital.  A NHH physician will evaluate all referrals to determine if the admission is appropriate.

2.  What are the visiting arrangements?Back to top

General visiting hours are 12:00 P.M. - 8:00 P.M. daily.  Special arrangements may be made by contacting the Unit on which the patient is located.

3.  What is the Anna Philbrook Center?Back to top

The Anna Philbrook Center is part of NHH and is one of two buildings where treatment programs are provided.  This unit is currently designated to treat children and young adolescents.

4.  Will I have to pay for hospitalization at NHH?Back to top

All individuals receiving treatment are obligated to pay for services they receive.  During the first days of admission, a staff member reviews a patient's resources or their family's resources to pay for the hospitalization.  This staff member will fully explain the financial obligation and will have insurance information about Medicare and Medicaid available.  NHH will ask for signed permission to release information to a patient's insurance company.

A financial statement must be completed to provide information about an individual's ability to pay for care.  The financial statement is required by law.  When an individual has no insurance or personal resources NHH will not deny necessary care.

5.  Is NHH licensed or accredited?Back to top
NHH is a state owned and operated facility that complies with federal conditions to participate in the Medicare program.  We are committed to quality health care.  Proof of this commitment is our accreditation by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO).  We have been awarded accreditation because we provide the very best care possible and we prove we do by meeting the Joint Commission's standards for high quality health care.

6.  What if I have a concern or a complaint about treatment provided?Back to top
NHH is committed to quality care and takes any complaints or concerns seriously.  If you have a concern about care, please contact NHH and ask for the complaint investigator.

7.  Does NHH provide outpatient services?Back to top
NHH does not provide outpatient services, however, NHH works closely with other providers to arrange aftercare clinical services.  Frequently this care is provided by a local community mental health center.
