Health Promotion

The Health Promotion unit is responsible for the development, coordination and monitoring of health risk reduction projects.  Program focus areas include:

  • Increasing physical activity for children and adults;
  • Coordination of distance learning programs for health professionals and educators;
  • Public health lending library services; and
  • Healthy New Hampshire 2010, NH's disease prevention and health promotion agenda.

In conjunction with the state nutrition services program, the Health Promotion unit works to prevent obesity through healthy eating and regular physical activity.  Program activities take place throughout NH in school, community and worksite settings.

Through the KidPower! Program, the Health Promotion unit encourages safe walking and bicycling to school as a means to meet the recommended levels of physical activity for children, and to build and strengthen community connections.

Through a relationship with New Hampshire Celebrates Wellness, physical activity opportunities are offered throughout the state for adults using volunteer team leaders to coordinate initiatives in communities and the workplace.

Through it's distance learning program and lending library services, the Health Promotion unit provides training and education opportunities for use by the public health and health care professionals, educators and consumers.

Health Promotion also coordinates DHHS involvement with Healthy New Hampshire 2010, the public and private planning initiative established to provide a framework for healthy living and improve quality of life for NH citizens.
