The Tobey School, located in Concord NH, is an alternative day and residential school for students identified as educationally disabled and entitled to services under an Individual Education Plan (IEP). The school is approved by the NH Department Of Education and offers a full range of academic classes.
Admission
Tobey School admission begins with an application by the student's home school district's Special Education Coordinator. Included in the application or referral packet is information detailing the student's grades, health immunization history, evaluations and evidence of a special education enrollment or eligibility. The application is forwarded to the Tobey School Admission Coordinator or School Secretary to determine the student's eligibility. If eligible, an interview is scheduled with a representative from the student's school district, the student, parent/guardian and other community support personnel as appropriate. Following the interview, the Tobey Multi-Disciplinary Team renders a decision to accept or deny admission of the applicant. The average length of stay for a residential student is 9-12 months. Students generally return to their home and previous school system upon discharge from the Tobey School.
Class Schedules
Each student's class schedule at Tobey School is developed in conjunction with a representative from the student's school district and Tobey School admissions staff to ensure that each student is taking the classes required for that district. Credits are awarded as appropriate by the school district and incorporated into the student's official school transcript.
Day Programs
Students who are able to return home at the end of each school day are eligible to participate in the day programs and vocational opportunities offered by the Tobey School.
Residential Program
A full time residential program is available for those students in need of residential services. The dormitory residence can accommodate up to 24 students. The environment is based upon mutual respect, safety and responsibility of both students and staff. Social skill groups, individual, group, family counseling and therapy services are available as deemed appropriate by the student's treatment team, and provided by youth counselors and licensed clinicians. Nursing and psychiatric services are also available to the students. Family visitations are strongly encouraged and students are expected to visit home on weekends.
39 Day Extended Year Program
The extended year program focuses on social skills, core academic subjects and community experiences.
