The Balance of State Continuum of Care (BOSCOC) study provides information about the number of sheltered and unsheltered homeless individuals and families in New Hampshire. This report is a "Point in Time" study and is conducted annually for each state fiscal year.
This report studies the Balance of State Continuum Care and does not include data for the Manchester and Nashua Continuum of Care.
One of HUD's requirements for funding is that New Hampshire conduct a "point-in-time" count of the homeless, both sheltered and unsheltered. OHHTS has designated from noon, January 25, 2006 until noon, January 26, 2006 as the period for the statewide "point-in-time" count.
Selected participants have been mailed data collection tool kits and are requested to collect information about homeless individuals and families (i.e. on the street, in cars, parks, and other places not meant for human habitation) that visit homeless shelter and service areas during this time period.
Who Should Participate in the Count?
Since many of the State's street and hidden homeless approach/become known to the local municipal welfare offices, the following groups have been asked to to participate in this "point-in-time" count:
- homeless shelters,
- transitional housing programs,
- soup kitchens and
- other sites homeless people seek shelter
Please note that the numbers will be used in the aggregate on a regional basis and will not be reported from individual offices.
