Office of the Long-Term Care Ombudsman

Eligibility for Long-Term Care Ombudsman Services

Complaint Investigation and Resolution Services
As a program under the Older American's Act, the Office of the Long-Term Care Ombudsman (OLTCO) serves those residents of long-term care facilities who are 60 years of age and older. Long-term care residents under the age of 60 are referred to other advocacy programs that can assist them. Some exceptions to serving long-term care residents under the age of 60 are made when there are no other advocates that can assist the long-term care resident. In these circumstances the OLTCO is required to assure that the provision of such assistance will not adversely affect the ability of the OLTCO to meet the needs of our target population, long-term care facility residents who are 60 or older before providing services. Further, this exception can only be made in situations where the presenting problem(s) could have an adverse affect upon other residents in the facility who are 60 or older.
