The Office of Medicaid Business and Policy is dedicated to the identification of NH's health care and social service needs through assessment of health care and social services delivery systems. OMBP has functional responsibility for health planning, reporting, data and research, the Medical Assistance program (Medicaid), and Special Medical Services.
The health planning and research unit enhances the strategic planning and research capabilities of DHHS. It works at building a framework from the entire health care network can work together to prepare a comprehensive and coordinated system of health and human services to support, promote and protect the health, safety and well-being of NH citizens. OMBP works directly with policy makers at the state and local levels to develop options for meeting the health care needs of the most vulnerable populations.
OMBP is responsible for the administration of the Medical Assistance program and Special Medical Services for children with physical disabilities, chronic illnesses and special health care needs. OMBP's development and facilitation of program policy and financial management for Medicaid services assists other DHHS program areas manage specialized Medicaid programs for the aged, blind and disabled, mental health, developmentally disabled, and long term care residents. Other health program initiatives such as NH's Healthy Kids Insurance Program (Child Health Insurance Program-CHIP) and Pharmacy Benefits Management are administered under contract.
