Molecular Diagnostics Laboratory

The Molecular Diagnostics Laboratory employs the latest molecular, genetic and computer technologies for the purpose of research & development, disease outbreak investigation and readiness for bioterrorism.  The primary functions of this laboratory are to:  1) develop and implement new methods and procedures for the detection and surveillance of infectious diseases; 2) investigate infectious disease outbreaks by DNA fingerprinting; and 3) provide method development, validation and testing for agents of bioterrorism.

Virology/Sexually Transmitted Disease (STD) Laboratory

The Virology/STD laboratory is a comprehensive virology laboratory that provides testing for a variety of infectious disease agents such as Human Immunodeficiency Virus Type I (HIV-1); hepatitis A, B and C viruses; influenza viruses; sexually transmitted disease (STD) agents; and various other agents.

Vector-borne Disease Laboratory

The Vector-borne Disease laboratory tests for the presence of West Nile Virus (WNV) as well as other Vector-borne diseases such as Eastern Equine Encephalitis, Lyme Disease and Ehrlichia.  The laboratory plays an important role in NH's WNV Surveillance and Response Plan by providing quality assured, timely laboratory testing for agents causing human encephalitis.  The Vector-borne Disease laboratory uses both serological and molecular testing methods to detect the presence of these viruses.  Clinicians can submit specimens for serological assays from patients with a diagnosis of encephalitis or aseptic meningitis.  Human cerebrospinal fluid as well as avian, equine and mosquito samples are tested by molecular methods.
