1.  What is the State Committee on Aging (SCOA)?Back to top
The State Committee on Aging assists the Commissioner of DHHS to assess problems relating to seniors and recommends solutions.  SCOA solicits the cooperation and help of various groups in NH concerned with seniors.  These groups provide views, experience, assistance and recommendations for the preparation and direction of future planning and administrative and legislative action.
 
2.  What is the process for appointment to the State Committee on Aging?Back to top
The Governor nominates a candidate from each county for SCOA membership subject to approval by the Executive Council.
 
3.  I'd like to become a SCOA member.  What should I do?Back to top

If you wish to be considered for appointment to SCOA you must complete the SCOA Candidate Profile.  For more information contact the Governor's Director of Appointments and Liaison to the Executive Council.

 
4.  What is the term of a SCOA member?Back to top
Each member shall serve a term of 3 years except the terms of legislative members that end when their 2-year legislative terms ends.
 
5.  How often does SCOA meet?Back to top
SCOA is required to meet at least every three months.  Currently SCOA meets monthly.  Most SCOA members serve on at least one sub-committee;  sub-committees meet monthly.
 
6.  Are SCOA members paid a salary?Back to top

No.  All Committee members are reimbursed for actual expenses including any necessary in-state travel connected with committee business at the mileage rate established for state employees.

 
7.  How would I get involved with SCOA work?Back to top
Recommendations or concerns about programs and supports for NH's seniors can be shared with the Chairperson of SCOA in writing.
