The 60-Month Lifetime Limit on TANF Financial Assistance:

What You Need to Know Pamphlet

Published Date:04/01/2008
Owner:Division of Family Assistance

On October 1, 1996, a federal law placed a maximum 60-month lifetime limit on the receipt of Financial Assistance to Needy Families (FANF) financial assistance.  In NH these programs are called the New Hampshire Employment Program (NHEP) and  the Family Assistance Program (FAP).

Considering the 60-month lifetime limit, means you will need to decide if you want to receive financial assistance now, or save your time for when you may have a greater need.

There are exceptions to the 60-month lifetime limit and also criteria where certain hardships would exclude a month from being counted towards the limit.   Please see the TANF 60-Month Lifetime Limit pamphlet (2 pages) that explains when a month counts towards the limit and which participating adults are considered.
