In NH, Financial Assistance to Needy Families provides temporary financial and medical assistance to families with dependent children. To qualify, the dependent children must lack parental support or care due to death, continued absence, or because one or both parents in a two-parent home are disabled, unemployed, or working less than 100 hours a month.
Parents of families eligible for Financial Assistance to Needy Families are also eligible for Medicaid and children are eligible for Healthy Kids Gold medical coverage. Families eligible for Financial Assistance to Needy Families are also eligible for Emergency Assistance program services that can help them get and keep safe and secure housing.
Financial Assistance to Needy Families is issued twice per month via Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT) or Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT). Financial assistance issued via EFT is deposited directly into an individual's checking or savings account and is accessible in the same manner as any other cash in the account. Financial assistance issued via EBT is accessed through a debit-style EBT card and individuals can either swipe the EBT card through a point-of-sale machine at participating retailers or use ATM machines to access the financial assistance.
