Naturopathic Examiners License Requirements

 

 Naturopathic Doctor: Initial License Requirements

  • Submit a naturopathic license application & pay the required license fee;
  • Possess a good moral and professional reputation;
  • Be physically and mentally fit to practice naturopathic medicine;
  • Graduate from a naturopathic medical college that is accredited by the Council on Naturopathic Medical Education or another such accrediting agency recognized by the federal government; or graduate from a foreign country naturopathic medical college that possesses equivalent qualifications; and
  • Successfully complete the Naturopathic Physicians Licensing Examinations (NPLEX).

 

 Naturopathic Doctor: Renewal License Requirements

  • Submit a naturopathic license renewal application and pay the required license fee; and
  • Documentation of completion of 150 hours of continuing education every three years.  At least 60 of those hours must be taken in a professionally supervised setting with courses in pharmacology and/or pharmacognosy totaling at least 24 of the 60 hours.

 

 Acupuncture: Initial License Requirements

  • Complete a program in acupuncture approved by the Board of Naturopathic Examiners that includes at least 500 hours of training in acupuncture; and
  • Successfully pass the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM) examination.

 

Acupuncture: Renewal License Requirements

  • Complete a minimum of 24 hours of continuing education that is directly related to acupuncture as part of the 150 hour continuing education requirement.

 

Naturopathic Childbirth: Initial License Requirement

  • Complete at least 100 hours of course work, internship or preceptorship in obstetrics or natural childbirth; 
  • Participate in 40 supervised births under the direct supervision of a licensed naturopathic, medical or osteopathic physician with specialty training in obstetrics or natural childbirth; and
  • Successfully pass the American College for Naturopathic Obstetricians (ACNO) examination. 

 

Naturopathic Childbirth: Renewal License Requirements

  • Complete a minimum of 24 hours of continuing education that is directly related to naturopathic childbirth as part of the 150 hour continuing education requirement.
