AmeriCorps payments made under the National and Community Service Trust Act of 1993, P.L. 103-82, are funded through the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS), formerly known as ACTION.

The AmeriCorps Network consists of 3 separate programs based on the participants age and type of service performed.

• AmeriCorps State and National (age 18 and older) is a grant-funding program. Organizations receiving grants include national groups such as Habitat for Humanity, the American Red Cross, and the Boys and Girls Clubs.

• AmeriCorps VISTA (Volunteers in Service to America, age 18 and older) is a one-year full-time program that specifically addresses issues related to poverty by developing and mobilizing resources that create long-term sustainable benefits at a community level.

• AmeriCorps NCCC (National Civilian Community Corps, age 18 to 24) is a 10-month residential program that combines civilian and military service. Members serve in teams of 10 to 15 members. Teams work on short-term projects in neighboring states.

Treatment:

• Child care payments, educational awards, and health care benefits are excluded by federal

mandate.

• Treat the monthly living allowance as earned income for all AmeriCorps programs except for AmeriCorps-VISTA. For payments under AmeriCorps VISTA, see Volunteers in Service to America (VISTA).
