301.07 How to Verify SR 94-04, 04/94 (FAM-A)

Verify identity using any document that reasonably establishes the individual’s identity. If no document is available, use a collateral contact.

Exceptions:

• If an individual is unable to provide verification of identity, grant assistance until the next regularly scheduled redetermination.

• For newborns, collateral contacts are acceptable instead of a birth, baptismal, or other formal record only for 1 year. If no birth record is available after 1 year and the assistance group receives financial assistance, open the newborn in a separate MA case.
