Previous Policy

_____________________________________________________________

Individuals who are residents of drug or alcohol treatment centers apply and are certified through the use of an Authorized Representative (AR). The AR must be an employee designated by the private nonprofit organization or by the publicly operated mental health center that is administering the treatment program.

The organization applies on behalf of the resident, receives the Food Stamp benefits, and uses the benefits for food prepared by or served to the resident.

Treatment centers acting as AR are liable for overpayments resulting from inaccurate information or illegal use of the Food Stamp benefits.
