237 SHELTERS FOR BATTERED WOMEN AND CHILDREN (FSM)

SR 94-04 Dated 04/94

Previous Policy

____________________________________________________________

Apply special procedures for public or private nonprofit residential shelters that provide services to battered women and children. If the shelter does not serve meals, residents may receive Food Stamps like any other household.

Residents in shelters for battered women and children may choose to appoint a shelter representative or another person to act as authorized representative (AR).

Individuals residing in approved shelters for battered women and children must meet the same income and resource standards as other households. However, use only the income, resources, and expenses for which the shelter resident is currently responsible, without regard to the income, resources, and expenses of their former household. Ensure that the former household's eligibility or allotment reflects the change in the household's composition.
