249.07 Extended Food Stamp (EFS) Period (FSM)

SR 24-13 Dated 04/24

Previous Policy

____________________________________________________________

The EFS benefit period begins the first month following the last month Financial Assistance to Needy Families (FANF) was received and continues for five consecutive months, unless during the EFS period the household:

       opens for FANF financial assistance;

       reapplies for regular SNAP benefits; or

       requests that the EFS benefits close.

Example:

A SNAP household receives their last FANF payment on 4/30/2023. The EFS period shall begin on 5/1/2023 and shall end on 9/30/2023.

Households must reapply or recertify for regular SNAP benefits during EFS month five to have eligibility for regular SNAP benefits determined.

At reapplication or recertification, all changes that were reported during the EFS period, and any new information, will be used to determine ongoing SNAP eligibility.

If the household fails to reapply or recertify, EFS automatically terminates on the last day of month five.
