701.03 Communal Dining Facilities (FSM)

An individual and their spouse may use food stamps to purchase meals prepared for them at any FNS-approved communal dining facility. To be eligible, the individual (not necessarily the spouse) must be at least age 60 or be receiving SSI, OAA, ANB, or APTD. The communal dining facilities include the following:

• apartment buildings occupied primarily by elderly persons or recipients of SSI, OAA, ANB, or APTD,

• private establishments which contract with a state or local agency to offer meals at low prices,

• nonprofit establishments,

• federally subsidized housing for the elderly where meals are prepared and served to residents, and

• senior citizens’ centers.
