Former Foster Care Child medical assistance (MA) is considered a Medicaid eligibility category that uses Modified Adjusted Gross Income (MAGI) in the eligibility determination process, however, there are no income tests and these individuals are always a household size of one. Former Foster Care Child MA is automatically provided to former foster care children, meaning they were in foster care and:

 

·         enrolled in NH Medicaid when they turned 18, as confirmed by the Department of Children, Youth, and Families (DCYF), who are under age 26 and are not enrolled in any other category of medical assistance; or

 

·         enrolled in Medicaid in any state when they turn 18 on or after January 1, 2023, are under age 26, and are eligible but not enrolled in any other category of medical assistance.

 

NOTE: Self-attestation of enrollment in Medicaid in any other state at the age of 18 on or after January 1, 2023 is acceptable verification without any other proof required. 

 

When the individual reaches age 26, the individual is no longer eligible for Former Foster Care Child MA. Determine eligibility for all other categories of medical assistance before terminating assistance.
