Mary Ann Cooney, RN, MS, is an Associate Commissioner for the New Hampshire Department of Health and Human Services, Office of Human Services. Mary Ann began working for the State of New Hampshire in 2002. From 2002 to 2004 she was Bureau Chief for Chronic Disease Prevention in DHHS' Division of Public Health Services. In 2004, she became Director of the Division of Public Health. She was confirmed by Governor Lynch and the Executive Council as Deputy Commissioner for DHHS in April of 2008 and served in that role until August 2012.
Prior to coming to the State of NH, Mary Ann spent 16 years in local public health. For 11 of those years she was the Supervisor of School Health for the Manchester Public Health Department. She has also held positions in acute care, cardiac rehabilitation, psychiatric and intensive care nursing. She received her baccalaureate in nursing from Saint Anselm College, a Master of Science in Nursing Administration from University of New Hampshire, and a Master of Public Health from the University of New Hampshire.
