Glossary L-words (AAM)

Leave of absence — A temporary absence from work approved by the employer.

Liable relative — A person who by law or regulation may be required to contribute to the support of a recipient of assistance.

Licensed child care provider — A provider who has been approved by the Division of Public Health Services to provide child care services.

License-exempt provider — Child care services that are not required to be licensed.

Lien — An encumbrance placed on real or personal property in order to secure repayment of assistance granted.

Life Estate — Rights to the use of an asset during one’s lifetime even though title to it has been transferred.

Liquid asset — A resource which can be readily converted to cash.
