Medical assistance is available on an In and Out basis to an assistance group which meets all eligibility requirements for medical assistance, except countable income exceeds the medically needy income limits. In and Out medical assistance is helpful to individuals whose income is insufficient to meet incurred medical costs or unpaid prior medical debts.

Retroactive medical assistance (see Section 109.09, Application for Retroactive Medical Assistance, is available on an In and Out basis, with a one-month spenddown for each retroactive month.

In and Out medical assistance is available with either a:

. one-month spenddown, or

. six-month spenddown.

Individuals must choose either the one- or six-month spenddown after they have:

. met all eligibility criteria, and

. submitted all verifications of medical expenses to the District Office.

Do not allow the individual to switch between a one- and six-month spenddown unless the individual reapplies for assistance.
