Concord, NH – The New Hampshire Department of Health and Human Services introduces NH Health WISDOM, a Web-based Interactive System for Direction and Outcome Measures (WISDOM) of public health data accessible at https://wisdom.dhhs.nh.gov/. Developed by the DHHS Division of Public Health Services (DPHS), this interactive website aggregates many different source datasets containing hundreds of health-related indicators. Health indicators can either inform or measure health choices at the community and individual level. WISDOM provides a portal for health professionals, government agencies, and the public to directly access these datasets, view and customize reports built from these datasets, and save their reports for later access.

“This is a tremendous asset that for the first time allows users to retrieve data themselves and create their own reports, saving time and resources,” said Marcella Bobinsky, Acting Director of Public Health at DHHS. “We anticipate WISDOM will be a tool used by teachers, students, public health professionals, the media, government officials, healthcare workers, and anyone who wishes to access New Hampshire health data.”

Data in WISDOM is organized around the New Hampshire State Health Improvement Priorities (SHIP) and the NH Environmental Public Health Tracking (EPHT) surveillance data on environmental hazards, exposures, and associated health effects. Users may access data using interactive dashboards. The dashboards contain preselected key indicators that are customizable to explore data more fully allowing users to change measure, time period, geography and demographics. Each indicator will have up to three slides displaying the information 1) by trend showing changes from year to year, 2) by chart showing relative differences, and 3) by map showing geographical differences. Tables on each slide allow data to be exported from the portal for further analysis.

Community Profiles are available for most topic areas and enable the user to compare data on two different communities with the State. Once the communities have been selected, a report card will display the differences between the two communities. Each row in the report card is tied to a social determinant of health indicator and is color coded to distinguish whether the rates for the indicators are lower or higher than the rest of the State.

WISDOM presents the health status of New Hampshire communities and supports evaluation of activities that DPHS and its local partners are taking toward improving population health. The data provided may be used to identify trends, develop program initiatives, strengthen research, aid grant writing, and support policy changes.
