Concord, NH – Jeffrey A. Meyers, Commissioner of the New Hampshire Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), has asked Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center (DHMS) to clarify whether any of the 84 layoffs from "across the system" announced on October 17, 2016, will include any psychiatric staff.

Commissioner Meyers made the request for clarification in an October 17 letter to Dr. James Weinstein, CEO of DHMC. Commissioner Meyers notes that the announcement by DHMC "states that these 84 layoffs will be achieved ‘across the system'." The letter asks Dr. Weinstein "to clarify whether any of the layoffs will impact DHMC's provision of psychiatric services, including those services provided under contract to the State of New Hampshire at New Hampshire Hospital, the Sununu Center, Glencliff Nursing Home and at the Department of Health and Human Services."

During a September 21, 2016, meeting of the Governor and Executive Council, Dr. Weinstein affirmed DHMC's commitment to provide all the services under the contract. In light of that commitment, the announcement of the layoffs "is unclear as to whether the layoffs ‘across the system' will include or exclude psychiatric services in Lebanon or elsewhere," Commissioner Meyers writes.

"I would appreciate a prompt response that is also copied to Governor Hassan and members of the Executive Council," concludes Commissioner Meyers.
