Background Checks for Child Care Personnel

Criminal History Record Check requirements for child care personnel and household members in licensed child care and residential programs have TEMPORARILY changed due to State of Emergency. During this time only requests for in state criminal history record checks are being conducted, as the requirement for FBI fingerprinting has been deferred until after the State of Emergency has ended.

For new child care personnel or household members, criminal background checks will be accepted if completed:

  • By school districts for current employees of schools; and
  • As a requirement for licensure through the individual’s professional licensure process.

Verification of the above must be kept on file and submitted as described below.

If the above applies, submit the following, in one packet, directly to the Child Care Licensing Unit, 129 Pleasant Street, Concord, NH 03301:

To request a State of NH background check, complete and submit the following, in one packet, directly to the Child Care Licensing Unit, 129 Pleasant Street, Concord, NH 03301:

*If you are unable to meet with a notary in person, Emergency Order #11 Adobe Acrobat Reader Symbol authorizes a notary to perform secure remote online notarization.

Employment Eligibility Cards are NOT required at this time, UNLESS you have been able to complete fingerprints and are submitting an Applicant/Licensing LiveScan Fingerprinting form with your submission, and meet the requirements outlined on page 2 of the Employment Eligibility Card Application – CCLU 1-C Adobe Acrobat Reader Symbol.

Please check our website often, as updates will be provided if requirements change during the State of Emergency. Further instruction will be provided once the State of Emergency has been lifted and the requirement for fingerprinting is reinstated.

Out-of-State Abuse and Neglect Checks
For all individuals requiring a background check who have lived in other states during any part of the last five years there must be an abuse and neglect registry check completed in each of those states.
