Change in Automatic Part B Buy-In Eligibility for Terminated Title IV-A and Title IV-E Cash Assistance Cases Eligible for Extended Medical Assistance

SUMMARY

 

This SR releases the elimination of automatic eligibility for Medicare Part B buy-in to individuals who are categorically eligible for extended medical assistance.

 

PREVIOUS POLICY

NEW POLICY

Individuals who were categorically eligible for extended medical assistance were automatically eligible for Part B buy-in by the State.

Individuals are not automatically eligible for Part B buy-in by the State based upon eligibility for extended medical assistance. To be eligible for Part B buy-in, the individual must meet one of the other criteria in FAM 717.11, Who is eligible for Part B Buy-In.

 

POLICY

 

Individuals eligible for extended medical assistance because of having been terminated from foster care, adoption subsidy, or TANF financial assistance due to an increase in earnings or child support are no longer automatically eligible for Part B buy-in by the State. To be eligible for Part B buy-in, the individual must meet one of the other criteria in FAM 717.11, Who is eligible for Part B Buy-In.

 

NEW HEIGHTS CHANGES

 

New HEIGHTS was modified to end the automatic Medicare Part B buy-in for the individuals identified in this SR on the evening of April 2, 2004.

The policy released in this SR was effective beginning April 3, 2004.

This SR may be destroyed or deleted after its contents have been noted and the revised manual topics released by this SR have been posted to the On-line manuals.

 

DISTRIBUTION

 

This SR will be distributed according to the electronic distribution list for Division of Family Assistance policy releases. This SR, and revised On-Line Manuals, will be available for agency staff in the On-Line Manual Library, and for public access on the Internet at http://www.dhhs.nh.gov/DHHS/DFA/LIBRARY, effective February 28, 2005.

 

This SR, and printed pages with posting instructions, will be distributed under separate cover to all hard copy holders of the Family Assistance Manual.
