Aftercare Services

A voluntary program that assists eligible young adults formerly in NH Division for Children, Youth and Families (DCYF) out-of-home placement in their pursuit of education, employment, housing and well being goals. Young adults receiving Aftercare Services are eligible for one or both of two federal funds based on exit status, availability and personal need. Education and Training Voucher (ETV) and Chafee funds are designed to complement the young adults own efforts to achieve self-sufficiency.

Education and Training Voucher (ETV) funds Adobe Acrobat Reader Symbol can be used for "cost of attendance items" such as tuition and fees, room and board, books and child care expenses. Chafee can be used for other expenses such as housing when not attending school, medical and car insurance, car expenses etc. To find out if you are eligible for ETV, Chafee or both see below. To apply for Aftercare Services contact the Adolescent Worker Adobe Acrobat Reader Symbol in your area.

Eligibility for ETV funds:

  • You are between the ages of 18-21 with a previously open DCYF child protection case and you left DCYF placement on or after your 18th birthday.
  • You are between the ages of 18-21 with a previously open DCYF juvenile justice case and you left DCYF foster, relative, shelter or residential care (does not include secure detention) on or after your 17th birthday.
  • You are between the ages of 18-21 and after attaining 16 years of age you left DCYF child protection placement or juvenile justice foster, relative, shelter or residential care for guardianship or adoption.
  • If you are receiving ETV at the time of your 21st birthday and are making satisfactory progress towards completion, you may continue receiving ETV until your 23rd birthday provided that you continue meeting DCYF Aftercare Services requirements.

Eligibility for Chafee funds:

  • You are between the ages of 18-21 with a previously open DCYF child protection or juvenile justice case and you left DCYF placement on or after your 18th birthday.
  • You are between the ages of 18-21 and after attaining 16 years of age you left DCYF child protection or juvenile justice placement for guardianship or adoption.
