Molecular Diagnostics (MDX) Program

The NH PHL MDX Program employs the latest molecular biology techniques for the purpose of disease outbreak investigation, pathogen surveillance, and readiness for biothreat incidents.

The MDX Program serves the following functions:

  • Assessment of new molecular biology techniques for the detection of infectious diseases that are of concern to the citizens of New Hampshire.
  • Nucleic acid-based test method development, validation, implementation, and optimization of for the detection of infectious diseases.
  • Wastewater monitoring levels of the SARS-CoV2 virus using digital PCR, and expansion to other pathogens such as influenza and RSV.
  • Surveillance of SARS-CoV2 variants circulating in the community using Next Generation Sequencing technologies.
  • Whole Genome Sequencing methods and Bioinformatics for pathogen identification and characterization to assist in outbreak investigations.
