The Medical Transportation Program ensures that individuals enrolled in Medicaid have access to necessary medical services. A network of volunteer and recipient drivers provides transportation. The Department of Health and Human Services may reimburse individuals for driving Medicaid recipients to and from Medicaid Covered medical and dental appointments (both service and provider must be Medicaid reimbursable), provided that they have applied and have been accepted as drivers for the Medicaid Program. Before requesting payment for transportation, individuals must enroll as a driver in the Medical Transportation Program. Individuals may enroll as one of two types of drivers; a recipient driver, or a volunteer driver. In some circumstances individuals may enroll as both.
