Concord, NH – Jeffrey A. Meyers, Commissioner of the New Hampshire Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), made the following statement on the release of the Quality Assurance Review of the Division for Children, Youth and Families (DCYF) conducted by the Center for the Support of Families (CFS):

“The goal of DCYF is to ensure that the child welfare system in New Hampshire effectively protects the health and safety of our State’s children. The report by the Center for the Support of Families demonstrates that the child protection program is strong in certain places, while also highlighting important areas that must be strengthened in order to meet the goal of DCYF, DHHS, and all child protection stakeholders.

“We must acknowledge the needs for changes and reform at DCYF that are recommended in the qualitative review by CFS. The recommendations in this review are comprehensive and it is evident that a great deal of work must be done to address them. The Department is committed to working with the Governor-Elect, the New Hampshire Legislature and the judicial system to review and address these recommendations in a timely and comprehensive manner in order to ensure that the child protection system in New Hampshire ensures the safety of children and families.

“I want to thank the Center for the Support of Families for their thorough, expert work. I also want to thank all of the child protection stakeholders who participated in the review, including DCYF staff and families, for their honesty and their cooperation in this effort.”
